This course covers everything from the history and regulations of respirators to practical skills and emergency procedures. Gain hands on experience with air-purifying respirators and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), including donning, doffing, inspection, and maintenance.

Master Industrial Firefighters, Certified Industrial Hygienists, Certified Safety Professionals and HazMat Incident Commanders, each with other 35 years of experience.

Course Highlights

1. Comprehensive Respirator Education:

  • Brief History of Respirators
  • OSHA Requirements for Respirators
  • Overview of OSHA 1910.134
  • Review of general OSHA health hazards
  • Review of exposure terms and limits

2. Importance and Proper Use of Respirators:

  • Why respirators are necessary and how improper fit, use, or maintenance can compromise the protective effect of the respirator
  • Limitations and capabilities of respirators
  • Use in emergency situations

3. Practical Skills and Procedures:

  • How to inspect, don and doff, use and check the seal
  • Procedures for maintenance and storage
  • Recognition of medical signs and symptoms that may limit or prevent effective use
  • Approved respirators for IDLH and non-IDLH atmospheres
  • Respirator fit testing

4. Air Purifying Respirators:

  • The basics of Full Face and Half Face respirators
  • Selection of cartridges and filters
  • Using an Air Purifying Respirator
  • Inspection and Maintenance
  • Cleaning and disinfecting

5. Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and Escape Sets:
